Here at Hog Roast Axbridge we have been fortunate enough to serve all kinds of people at events, some of film fame, some of heralded business acumen, or political status, but our team has rarely been as star struck as when we played host to a 60th birthday this week only to find that the “Carole” we were helping to celebrate (thanks to a call from her daughter Jasmine) was none other than Carole from last years Great British Bake Off! We’re excellent chefs here at Hog Roast Axbridge, but when it comes to baking we always have to doff our chef’s hat to the incredible contestants of Bake Off and all of the extremely impressive baked designs that they create. So to be able to help surprise Carole for her 60th was privilege for our team, and we are so glad that she enjoyed it so!
The star sightings didn’t end with everyone’s favourite pink haired Bake Off mother though; Jasmine had also invited many of Carole’s fellow Bake Off 2022 contestants to help surprise her mother – which was as much a surprise and delight for the Hog Roast Axbridge Bake Off obsessives in the team too! For once though rather than being wowed by the works of the tv bakers it was their turn to be amazed by someone else’s culinary skills as the Hog Roast Axbridge team delivered an exquisite roast buffet for the GBBO bakers to tuck into!
For the Dorset baker and mother the Hog Roast Axbridge team had a Somerset hog to be roasted in our authentic hog roast style and shredded for a pulled pork dish with sage and onion stuffing. Joining the pulled Somerset Pork was our vegetarian alternative of BBQ pulled jackfruit, a selection of rolls and wraps and apple and sweet chilli sauces made fresh by our team. The bakers were amazed to see that we actually had a whole roasted pig cooking away at the event too – our very own version of the Bake-Off Showstopper that would even be likely to get a handshake from Paul Hollywood himself!
We hope Carole enjoyed her surprise 60th party and we wish all the best for all the bakers and guests in attendance.
