There’s something pretty special about being invited to someone’s milestone celebration – especially when that milestone is a 90th birthday. It’s not just a party, it’s a moment. A chance to gather generations together, swap stories, share laughs and, of course, enjoy some seriously good food.
So when Jo’s family reached out to Hog Roast Gillingham to cater her big day on the 18th of April, we didn’t hesitate for a second. Ninety years young deserves a celebration to match.
With 60 guests set to attend, it was clear this wasn’t going to be a quiet afternoon tea. This was a full-on gathering of friends, family and plenty of appetites to keep satisfied. Luckily, with our catering manager Alistair leading the charge, there wasn’t even a flicker of concern – just excitement to put together a menu worthy of the occasion.
After chatting through ideas and preferences, Jo settled on our Southern Slow Roast Menu. And honestly? Great choice. It’s one of those menus that just works – comforting, flavour-packed and flexible enough to keep a wide range of tastes happy.
On the day, the spread didn’t disappoint. Guests were treated to tender BBQ pork butt, rich and smoky 24-hour Texan beef brisket and beautifully seasoned Cajun whole-roasted chickens. Add to that baskets piled high with soft rolls and wraps, fresh Greek salad, creamy coleslaw and a generous helping of both sweet potato and classic fries and you’ve got a feast that was truly impossible to walk away from.
Then came the sauces – because what’s a slow roast without a bit of flair? A smoky-sweet BBQ glaze, a bold hickory bourbon sauce and a Cajun hot pepper option for those who like a bit of heat gave everyone the chance to customise their plate exactly how they liked it.

And it wasn’t just about the meat lovers – Hog Roast Gillingham made sure guests who preferred plant-based options had just as much to get excited about, with vibrant grilled vegetable kebabs served alongside flatbreads, dips and plenty of flavour.
By the end of the celebration, plates were cleared, guests were in high spirits and Jo’s big day had all the warmth and joy it deserved.
Thanks again for inviting us – Hog Roast Gillingham had a blast.
