The 18th, the 40th, the 80th – suddenly every detail feels like it has to be flawless, and what should be a few fun weeks of planning suddenly turns into a headache. Here’s the thing though: it really doesn’t need to be that way.

We recently helped out at an 80th birthday party just down the road, and it turned out to be a brilliant example of just how smooth things can be when you have the right caterer by your side.
Our catering manager Alistair kept the booking process dead simple from the start. And after chatting things through with the client, a hog roast felt like the obvious choice – so we built a menu around it, complete with plenty of sides and meat-free options so nobody felt left out.
Knowing it would take hours of prep to get everything just right, our Hog Roast Gillingham team rocked up to the venue well before the 7pm serving time. The hog itself was our main focus. But with just a little bit of salt, water, and patience, it wasn’t long before we had beautifully crispy crackling, mouth-watering pulled pork, sage and onion stuffing and applesauce waiting for guests to get stuck in. We rounded it out with coleslaw, mixed salad, tomato and mozzarella salad, and mixed fries, plus grilled veggie skewers and BBQ pulled jackfruit sliders for anyone going veggie or vegan. Suffice to say, all 130 guests left with full plates and happy faces.
Best of all? The client didn’t lift a finger the entire night. No last-minute panics, no scrambling – just great food and a proper celebration. That’s exactly how it should be, and it’s exactly what Hog Roast Gillingham is all about.
