Stepping away from the office can do more for a team than any motivational email ever will. A change of scenery, a proper meal and a bit of sunshine (when the British weather allows it) has a way of resetting everyone.
That was exactly the thinking behind a recent summer corporate event for Harris & Harris Legal Services LLP, who decided to take their team out of the office and into somewhere a little more relaxed. And honestly, they picked a venue that did half the work for them.
Stoberry House sits with views stretching across Wells Cathedral, Glastonbury Tor and the Vale of Avalon, as well as being surrounded by five acres of garden that manages to feel both grand and genuinely relaxing at the same time. Idyllic ponds, sweeping countryside and the kind of setting that makes people put their phones away and just… be present. For a legal firm wanting to give their guests and staff a proper afternoon off, it was about as well chosen as a venue gets.
Hog Roast Wells was brought in to take care of the catering, with a tailored version of our Southern Slow Roast Menu designed to match the occasion. It’s a menu that doesn’t rush anything – much like the setting itself.
Guests were greeted with Texan-style beef brisket, Cajun-spiced whole roasted chickens and Louisiana sticky pork ribs that quite frankly didn’t last long once word got round. Alongside them came smoky sweet glaze, hickory bourbon BBQ sauce and a Cajun hot pepper sauce for anyone who likes a bit of heat with their meal.
For the sides, Hog Roast Wells had rustled up seasonal green leaf salad, homemade coleslaw, potato salad and a mix of sweet potato and classic fries. Veggie and vegan guests were far from an afterthought too – hickory-smoked pulled jackfruit rolls gave them something every bit as satisfying as the main spread.
Desserts aren’t standard on this menu, but the client had requested them and it turned out to be an excellent decision. Hog Roast Wells’ vacherins of strawberries with passion fruit cream and profiteroles with rich and decadent chocolate sauce rounded things off perfectly.
By the end of the afternoon, it wasn’t just a corporate event anymore – it felt like a proper summer gathering, the kind people actually remember for the right reasons.
