Your wedding day is, without a doubt, one of the most important days of your life – so everything’s got to be as perfect as possible. That’s why we here at Spitting Pig were so happy to be involved in the celebrations of a lovely couple in Taunton, who hired our hog roast for their evening wedding reception. The party was held outdoors on a balmy summer evening, and we provided a large marquee in an ideal spot (ah, the beauty of portable venues!) where the wedding guests could have their plates piled high with juicy spit-roasted pig, served with sweet yet tangy apple sauce – they love their apples down in Somerset – stuffing, and crispy crackling, together with new potatoes with rosemary and garlic, and a selection of tasty salads. The pig had taken us four hours to slow cook and was fast becoming an attraction for the guests as the buffet centrepiece.
People always love to watch in anticipation as our chef carves the sizzling, succulent meat for the waiting plates. We have a choice of 6 mouth watering menus designed for wedding catering, but of course each one can be tailor made and our couple in Somerset picked their favourite combinations for the feast. During the evening, we were glad to see the same people come back for seconds …and thirds – but that’s OK with us, we won’t be naming names, we take it as a compliment! Well, there’s nothing like a special occasion like a wedding, complete with good food, to bring a smile to the face and this one was no exception. I’m sure you can picture the scene: the tantalising aroma of the hog roast wafting around, mingling with all the laughter and chatter ringing out in the mellow air. Then it was on to dessert, which in this case was wedding cake. We had sliced the cake ready for each guest to simply take a piece from the buffet table when they felt like it.
Let’s face it – after a day of formality and tradition, everyone could really let their hair down, and leave it to the Spitting Pig team to provide our friendly, professional service. And as the crockery was disposable as well as the napkins, no washing up was required – quick, easy and efficient! Before the newlyweds or the guests knew it, we had cleared up and packed away; for us at Spitting Pig in Somerset, the sun was setting on another satisfying day.
