Happy World Book Day From Hog Roast Exton!

The first Thursday in March is a very special day for book lovers everywhere. Why? Because it’s World Book Day, of course! And this year, Hog Roast Exton had the great pleasure of being included in the celebrations.

Before the annual festivities kicked off, we had been approached by a PTA (Parent-Teacher Association) member from one of the nearby schools, who was keen to get the kids excited about reading by throwing a fun-filled event where they could choose to dress up as their favourite book characters, take part in games and win tokens to purchase their own books from a selection of new releases and even speak to a real-life, award-winning author!

To make the experience even more memorable for everyone, the client was eager for Hog Roast Exton to serve our Southern Slow Roast Menu to the kids, which, of course, we were more than happy to do.

Taking inspiration from Deep Southern cuisine, this finger-lickin’ feast is absolutely packed full of flavour, which is what makes it so popular with young people. To create these mouth-watering flavours, Hog Roast Exton marinates each of the meats, in this case, our Cajun spiced whole roast chickens, BBQ pork butt and fall off the bone Louisiana sticky pork ribs, in our secret recipe rubs, before serving the results with a handful of spicy and smoky sauces.

Hog Roast ExtonAlso included in this menu is a selection of tasty side dishes, from which the client chose our Memphis style crunchy coleslaw, creamy mac and cheese, mixed sweet potato and regular fries and Greek salad. She had also requested our BBQ pulled jackfruit option for those following vegan and vegetarian diets, which comes with a plant-based coleslaw dressing and gluten-free rolls.

Our catering manager, Alistair, and the rest of the Hog Roast Exton crew had spent all morning working on this mouth-watering feast so that by the time the lunch bell rang out, the food was ready for the kids to dig in. Sure enough, the children (each of whom was dressed to represent their favourite book in some way) swarmed the lunch hall soon after the bell chimed, and formed an orderly line at our serving station, where our team worked quickly and efficiently to get everyone fed.

The kids really loved the food and were excited to help themselves to a second helping, and the client was extremely impressed with how smoothly the lunch service was run!
